UPCOMING EVENTS
At Oregon River Sports

The winter is here, and for many of you that should mean one thing: Whitewater! The rains and moderate temperatures of Oregon give us the opportunity to paddle rain-fed rivers and creeks while many other paddlers are snowbound. Oregon River Sports Paddling Club has expanded their paddling from the flatwater world and is starting to do more whitewater paddling. We have several whitewater trips to different Northwest rivers and creeks ranging from class II to class IV on most weekends. Bring your own boat or rent one of ours. These whitewater trips are a great opportunity to learn about area runs and meet other local paddlers. If you need to rent a boat we have all kinds available, and we're always happy to give advice on where to go. Also, take a look at our flatwater Paddle Club for touring/rec kayakers and canoeists. We offer a couple of trips and clinics every month, and it's a great way to meet likeminded people. For more information on everything mentioned, scroll down or click on the links below. Come paddle with us!

ONGOING EVENTS

Rolling Intruction Kayak Roll Classes & Practice Sessions
We offer instruction on rolling every other Wednesday night at Willamalane pool in Springfield. You'll learn the wet exit, T rescue, and the basic components necessary for a strong roll. The class includes kayak rental. The classes take place at Willamalane Pool from 7:45-9:45 pm. The cost for the first class is $40, and you may repeat it as often as you like for $25 for each session thereafter. If you'd like to participate in the class, please give us a call (334-0696) or stop by the shop the day before (Tuesday) by 2:00PM to sign up. We need to have at least four people enrolled in order to cover our costs of renting the pool, so get your friends to sign up as well. If you'd just like to practice on your own in the warmth and comfort of a heated pool, you can reserve a pool spot alongside the class. Again, please sign up as early as possible. You can call ORS to reserve a spot for $5 and, if you need a boat, you can rent one for $10.

2009 SUMMER EVENTS

UPCOMING WHITEWATER TRIPS

Hey dippers,

We had hoped that the 16th would be a cold weather/cold water clothing clinic that our Kokatat rep was going to host and then a whitewater paddling trip. It turns out that our rep did not get back to us... so that means no clinic. But it doesn't mean no whitewater trip. So how about joining me Sunday the 16th for a whitewater fling down the MF Willamette, Greenwater Park to Black Canyon Campground, 10 miles, all kinds of whitewater boats welcome. Hardshells; IK's; rafts; canoes or whatever suitable river craft you may want to show up in.

This will be the first of a series of whitewater trips that I want to lead this fall and winter. I do not have dates picked for the other trips but I do have an itinerary:

MF Willamette - 11/16/08 - 8:00am -
Greenwater Park to Black Canyon Campground - 10 miles
Fall Creek - 11/23/08 - 9:00am -
Fall Creek Dam to Jasper Park - 9 miles

Mckenzie River - unknown - 9:00am -
Finn Rock to Helfrich - 9 miles
N. Santiam - unknown - 8:00am -
Packsaddle to Mehama - 15 miles
Upper Mckenzie - unknown - 9:00am -
Frizell to Bruckart Bridge - 12 miles
N. Umpqua - unknown - 8:00am -
Boulder Flat to Gravel Bin - 14 miles
N. Fork MF Willamette - unknown - 8:00am
- Bottom of Gorge to Westfir - 8 miles

These trips are not for everyone, please call and talk to me if you have questions. These trips are designed for paddle club members only. The runs start easy and gradually become more difficult and are not guided trips. Minimum group size is six. All participants must have or rent appropriate paddle wear for these trips. These trips are subject to change because of waterflow and abilities of the paddling group. These are share cost events and drivers of vehicles do not share in fuel costs.

Call or email the shop to sign up... make sure that you are able to do the trip before you sign up. Right now there are two people signed up for the first trip... anyone else?
